A perfect card in every respect. Centering (50/50), Cut, Comers, Color, Picture quality. Focus, Enamel, Borders, Registration me absolutely perfect. One microscopic spot, or other micro printing imperfection are allowed for ET-10 and 2 for an ET-9PQ (Premium Quality 9.5). Mint cards in these grades are EXTREMELY RARE and virtually NONEXISTENT for the years 1886 to 1916. Worth 5 times nr mint book price for ET-1O and 4 times near mint for ET-9PQ.

A perfect card in almost every respect. Centering (50/50), Cut, Corners, Color, Picture quality. Focus, Coat or Enamel, Borders or Registration, is virtually perfect as seen with the naked eye. One detectable spot or micro printing imperfection is allowed for (E-10 and 2 for an E-9PQ Premium Quality 9.5). Less than 1 in 1000 Early mint cards make this grade. Worth 4 times near mint book price for E-10 and 3 times near mint for E-9PQ.

An early type card that is Mint may have only the slightest imperfection in no more than one or two of the major card grading characteristics. These include Centering (50/50 for ET-9 or 55/45 for 8PQ Premium Quality 8.5), Cut, Color, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders and Registration. About 3% of Early Type mint cards make this grade. Cards in this grade are extremely rare. ET-9 are worth three times near mint book price, ET-8PQ 2-1/2 times. An early card that is Mint can have only the slightest degree of imperfection in one or two of the major characteristics of Mint card grading which are Centering (50/50 for E-9 or 55/45 for 8PQ. Premium Quality 8.5), Cut, Color, Corners, Picture, Focus, Coat or Enamel, Borders or Registration. Less than 3% Early mint cards make this grade. This grade is also very rare. Worth 2.5 times near mint book price for E-9 and 2 times near mint for E-8PQ.

An early type card that is Near Mint to Mint exhibits very slight imperfections in no more than two or three of the major card grading characteristics which include Centering (60/40 for ET-8 or 65/35 for 7PQ (Premium Quality 7.5), Comers, Cut, Color, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders or Registration. About 12% of all Early Type mint cards make this grade. This grade is worth 2 times near mint price and ET-7PQ one and a half times near mint price.  An early card that is Near-Mint to Mint has slight imperfections in two or three of the major card grading characteristics of Centering (60/40 for E-8 or 65/35 for 7PQ Premium Quality 7.5), Cut, Color, Comers, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders or Registration. About 10% to 20% of all early mint cards make this grade. Less than 12% of Early mint cards make this grade. Worth 1.7 times near mint book price for E-8 and 1.5 times near mint for E-7PQ.

Minor imperfections can include: Off-centering (70/30), One very slightly dented corner, very slight Tobacco Stain, Spotting, or Fuzziness in the Gloss, Picture, Printing or Color. About 25% of all Early Type mint cards make this grade. This grade is equal to 100% of the average near mint book price. An early card that is Near Mint exhibits slight imperfections in three or four of the major card grading characteristics of Centering (70/30), Comers, Cut, Color, Corners, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders or Registration. Minor imperfections can include: Very Light Tobacco or Gum Stain, Spotting, Fuzziness in the Gloss, Picture, Printing or Color. About 35% of all early mint cards make this grade. This grade is equal to 100% of the average near mint book price.

An early type card that is Excellent to Near Mint exhibits very minor imperfections in four or five of the major card grading characteristics of Centering (85/15), Comers, Cut, Color, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders or Registration. Minor imperfections can include: Off-centering, One very slightly frayed comer. Slight Tobacco Stain, Spotting, or Fuzziness in the Gloss, Picture, Printing or Color. About 60% of all Early Type mint cards make this grade. This grade is worth 70% to 80% of the near mint price. An early card that is Excellent to Near Mint exhibits slight imperfections in four or five of the major card grading characteristics of Centering (85/15), Comers, Cut, Color, Picture, Focus, Coat-Enamel, Borders or Registration. Minor imperfections can include: Slight Gum Stain, Slight Manufacturer's Crease or Depression (on one side only). Spotting or Fuzziness in the Gloss, Picture, Printing or Color. About 50% of all Early mint cards make this grade. This grade is worth 70% to 80% of the near mint book price. This is the Iowest Manufacturer's Mint card grade.

It exhibits a minor defect in two or three of the major grading characteristics, which are: Minor wear (90/10), two slightly Frayed or Rounded corners or edges, slight Loss of Gloss, Enamel Peel (EP) on front of card. Reverse can exhibit one of the following defects: Light Crease, Wax or Tobacco Stain, Loss of Gloss, or Major Off-Centering. About 20% of all Early Type used cards make this grade. Worth 45% to 65% of the average near mint price of grade-7. An early card that is Excellent is a slightly used, or major Off-centered mint card (90/10). It exhibits a minor defect in one or two of the major grading characteristics, which are: Minor wear (up to 20% of card), a slightly Frayed or Rounded corner or edge, slight Loss of Gloss, Enamel Peel (EP), and Registration. Reverse can also exhibit one of the following defects: Light Crease, Wax, Tobacco, or Gum Stain, or Loss of Original Gloss. About 30% of Early used cards make this grade. Worth 45% to 65% of the average near mint price of grade.

Crease front or back. Reverse can also exhibit one of the following defects: Wax or Tobacco Stain, loss of Gloss. About 25% of all Early Type used cards make this grade. This card grade is worth 30% to 40% of the average near mint price of grade-7. An early card that is Very Good to Excellent exhibits two or three minor defects of the major grading characteristics of an E-5 card: Wear (up to 40% of card), two slightly Frayed or Rounded Comers or Edges, Slight loss of Enamel or Gloss on front of card. Crease front or back. Reverse can also exhibit one of the following defects: Wax or Gum Stain, Loss of Gloss. About 30% of Early used cards make this grade. This card grade is worth 30% to 40% of the average near mint price of grade-7.

This grade is worth 20% to 30% of the near mint price. An early card that is Very Good shows three or four major defects of the major grading characteristics of an E-5 card: Wear (up to 60% of card). Frayed or Rounded corners or edges, major loss of Enamel or Gloss on front or back of card, Creases front or back or slight graffiti. About 20% of Early used cards make this grade. This grade is worth 20% to 30% of the NM price.

Wax or Tobacco stains. About 20% of all Early Type used cards make this grade. Worth 15% to 20% of the average near mint price of grade-7. An early card that is Good displays four or five major defects of the major grading characteristics of an E-5 card: Wear (up to 75% of card), major Frayed or Rounded corners or edges on all sides, total loss of Enamel or Gloss on front or back. Major Creases front or back, major Stains and graffiti. About 10% of Early used cards make this grade. This grade is worth 15% to 20% of the near mint price.

An early type card that is Poor exhibits extreme Wear and defects including: missing Comers, complete loss of Gloss and major Enamel Peel, extreme Staining, Bent, Creased, or Ripped comers or edges and major graffiti, or any other catastrophic defect. Any card found to have been RESTORED (RS), RECOLORED (RCD), REPAPERED (RP), or in any other way tampered with is also given this grade. About 15% of all Early Type used cards meet this grade. Worth 10% of the average near mint price. An early card that is Fair to Poor exhibits extreme Wear and defects including: missing Comers, total loss of Gloss, extreme Staining, Bent, Creased or Ripped comers or edges and major graffiti, or any other catastrophic defect. Any card found to have been RESTORED (RS), RECOLORED (RCD), REPAPERED (RP), or in any other way tampered with, is also given this grade. About 10% of Early used cards make this grade. This grade is worth 10% to 15% of the near mint book price.

A perfect card in every respect Centering (50/50 for both), Corners, Cut, Color, Picture quality. Focus, Coat or Enamel, Borders, Registration and Centered reverse are absolutely perfect. No detectable microscopic spot, or other printing imperfections are allowed for M-10 as seen with a 5 powered glass. Less than 1% of mint Modern cards make this grade. M-10 cards are worth 4 times the Near Mint book price due in large part to their rarity.

A Mint Card should also exhibit all the characteristics of a PM-10 card as seen with the naked eye except that one or two micro printing imperfections are allowed, depending on severity. Registration, Corners, Color, Focus, Coat or Enamel, and Borders must be perfect. Centering (50/ for PM-9 or 45/55 for 8PQ), front and back, can be off by no more than 5%. About 3% of all Pre-Modern mint cards make this grade. PM-9 are worth 2.5 times near mint book price and PM-8PQ 2 times. A Mint Card should also exhibit all the characteristics of an M-10 card as seen with the naked eye except that one micro printing imperfection (a single micro spot) is allowed. Registration, Comers, Color, Focus, Coat or Enamel, and Borders must be perfect. Centering (50/50 for M-9 or 45/55 for M-8PQ, Premium Quality 8.5), can be off by no more than 5%. About 9% of all mint Modem cards make this grade. M-9 cards are worth 2 times the Near-Mint book price and the 8PQ cards are worth 1.5 times the Near-Mint book price.
